Martin Friedman (1925 – 2016) was a friend and frequent diner at Gotham. He is remembered with this special collection of works by some of his artist-friends as we celebrate his influence on 20th Century art. At Gotham through March 2017.

Roasted New Potato, Whole Garlic and Rosemary
1 ½ pounds red bliss potatoes unpeeled and cut into ½ inch dice
2 heads garlic separated into cloves – approximately 24 cloves unpeeled
3 sprigs rosemary
3 sprigs thyme
4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons of chopped parsley
Heat oven to 425 degrees. Place potatoes in a bowl, drizzle with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and season generously with salt and pepper. In a large oven proof sauté pan or roasting pan set over high heat, add 2-3 tbls evoo. When just beginning to smoke, add potatoes and herbs, reduce heat to medium, cook 10 minutes stirring until nicely browned. Place pan in oven add garlic cloves – stir and continue cooking until garlic is soft and potatoes are softened and nicely browned. Spoon into a serving dish and sprinkle with more coarse salt and chopped parsley.
Sweet Summer Corn
6 ears fresh corn
3 tablespoons butter
1 bunch scallions finely sliced
½ small jalapeno pepper seeded and finely diced
1 red bell pepper seeded and finely diced
¼ cup fresh chopped cilantro
1 lime juiced
2 tsp chipotle powder
coarse salt to taste
Cook corn in boiling salted water for 5 minutes. Remove and when cool enough to handle, cut kernels from cob, set aside. Melt ½ the butter in large sauté pan. Add peppers and scallion cook for 4 minutes add corn, heat thru and season with salt and chipotle powder, remaining butter, cilantro and lime. Serve immediately.
We are delighted that the Gotham Olive Oil from the Cordioli Farm was recognized by the AIPO d’Argento International Olive Oil Contest, 2016, as one of the top three oils in the lightly fruity, 100% Italian category.
The panel judges described this year’s pool of competing oils as very high level and remarked that lightly fruity oils, in particular, showed exceptional structure and personality.

The 2014 12 East 12 Pinot Noir is a joint project between Chapter 24 Vineyards and the iconic Gotham Bar and Grill in NYC. With a palette of vineyards to work with and a collaboration from Gotham’s beverage director, Liger-Belair assembled a style of wine to delight the savvy diner and skillfully compliment Alfred Portale’s menu. Bright notes of cherry harmonize with blue fruit undertones and intertwine to leave a lingering, elegant finish.
From August 30th to October 20th grapes were harvested from 5 vineyards (Croft, Johan, Carabella, Muska, and Phelps Creek) and brought to the winery then fully de-stemmed. Wild indigenous yeast took 24 days to change the whole berry infusion into wine. The berries were then pressed lightly in our manually controlled basket press and left to age for 12 months in 33% new oak barrels from Seguin Moreau and Francois Frères.
